Mekis: As long as I continue to give my best to Ferrari

The Ferrari drivers finished Friday’s practice in Monaco with 2nd and 3rd times, although Carlos Sainz crashed the car towards the end of the day. However, Laurent Mequis, Scuderia’s sporting director, thinks the first day of this important race weekend has gone relatively well.

Laurent Mekis: “In general, we can say that the training went well, we wanted to give both riders the opportunity to work on the track as much as possible, and this is a conscious approach – everyone saw that our cars were almost not parked in the garage.

At the same time, we understand that we need to continue to work so that the confidence of the riders is strengthened so that they can fully utilize the potential of the machine, and this process is still underway. We know that both Charles and Carlos are able to show very high speeds on this track, and our task is to create the right conditions for them.”

As Mekis is about to move to AlphaTauri and is due to take over from Franz Tost as team principal but is still at Ferrari, he was asked when the move could take place.

“The decision on when exactly this can happen has not yet been made,” the French specialist replied. “Until then, I will continue to give all my strength to the Scuderia, give all my best and wear a red uniform!”
