Mega Metal continues to grow with new investments

Producing copper, nickel and silver wire, Mega Metal reinforces its position as Europe’s largest supplier with its new production and technology investments. Mega Metal, which was established in 2004 and produces high-tech electrolytic copper wire used in electricity, electronics, communication, power generation and distribution, electrotechnical, renewable energy, household appliances, defense and automotive industries in its factory in Kayseri, is preparing for new investments that will increase its production capacity.

Mega Metal, which is the supplier of many international companies including world giants such as NASA, Tesla, Airbus and Samsung, is preparing to take important steps for sustainable production by zeroing carbon emissions with solar energy investments.

Stating that Mega Metal is the largest and strongest copper wire producer in Europe, Mega Metal Chairman of the Board Cüneyt Turgut said, “We have very strong brands in our customer portfolio, both in the domestic market and abroad. Currently, we dominate more than 70 percent of the market, especially in Europe.

Because there is no other company in Europe that can produce with such high technology. The standard diameter of the hair strand is 0.10 mm, we produce hair strands with a thickness of 0.05 mm. In this field, the total capacity of all manufacturers in Europe and Turkey cannot reach our capacity alone. Our facilities in Kayseri have not stopped for a minute since the day they were established, we are working at 100 percent capacity”.

Silver wire was added next to copper.

Reaching an annual production capacity of 48 thousand tons, Mega Metal continues its technology investments that diversify its product range. Turgut stated that they have started to produce silver-coated wire in addition to the copper wire they produce in their facility in Kayseri, and that they have added silver-plated wire, which is resistant to higher temperatures, to their product portfolio, and continued his words as follows: We can produce with the quality required by the sectors.

For example, silver wires are a very basic need of the health sector, which has undergone a great technological transformation in recent years, and there is no other manufacturer in Turkey besides us. There are two companies in Europe as well, but their position in the sector in the long run may also have an alarming acceleration. Among our goals is to add nickel-plated wires to our product portfolio. Nickel-plated wires have great potential for the US market, we will start production when we complete our organization in this market.”

Turgut says that when he founded Mega Metal in 2004, they set out with the goal of becoming one of the three largest companies operating in the copper wire industry in the world, and they took firm steps towards this goal.

Preparing to invest $50 million

Turgut says that Mega Metal has reached its capacity limit and needs to make new investments to continue its growth. Turgut stated that there is no room left for new production lines in the factory area in Kayseri, so they are looking for a place in the Marmara Region and said, “Kayseri has various difficulties in terms of logistics, unfortunately there is no railway line connecting Kayseri to the ports. However, a railway line connecting Mersin or Iskenderun will make a very serious contribution to the exports of the region.

For this reason, we are looking for a place in the Marmara Region for both export and domestic market. Thus, we will both shorten the time of supplying goods to our customers abroad and be closer to our domestic customers. Most of our domestic customers also produce in the west of the country.” The new production facility, which Mega Metal is preparing to put into operation in the Marmara Region, is planned to have an annual production capacity of 24 thousand tons.

Another goal of the company is to start production in the USA. Stating that they are in talks with a company that produces special wires with a capacity of 6 thousand tons per year and that the signatures will be signed soon, Turgut said, “We have an investment calendar of approximately 50 million dollars for both the new factory, the US investment and solar power plants.”

Investments continue for green production

Mega Metal, Europe’s largest supplier of high-quality and high-tech copper wire, is preparing for the new market conditions to be brought by the European Green Agreement. Stating that there are two separate solar power plant projects in addition to the new production facility, Turgut said the following regarding this issue:

“We have installed a solar power plant on the roof of our factory in Kayseri. We have 6 MW electricity generation capacity here. We will also establish another power plant with a capacity of 12 MW in Şereflikoçhisar. We have a total right of 40 MW, which we will evaluate in the future. In this way, we will gain a special advantage especially in our exports to Europe. You know, according to the Green Deal, all companies have to reduce their carbon footprint. In this way, we will gain a serious advantage.”
