Speaker of Parliament. Shiruji Mathir Samir, High Commissioner of Maldives to Bangladesh paid a courtesy call on Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury.

The meeting took place at the Speaker’s office in the Parliament House on Monday (September 26).

During the meeting, they discussed economic development and expansion of trade and commerce, COVID-19 vaccination activities, Parliamentary Friendship Group, Bangladeshi labor market in Maldives, etc.

The speaker said the government has taken the Covid-19 vaccination program as a challenge. The government is working relentlessly to bring people across the country under vaccination. Despite the global recession in the Kovid period, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina took timely steps to maintain the continuity of development in Bangladesh and to keep the daily life of people of different classes and professions normal.

High Commissioner of Maldives Shirujimath Samir recalled the continuation of strong diplomatic relations with Bangladesh and said that the hospitable behavior of the people of Bangladesh and the breathtaking natural beauty of Bangladesh are truly remarkable. The birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has been celebrated following the hygiene rules even in the midst of the epidemic which is commendable.

The Speaker thanked the Maldivian government for supporting the Bangladeshi candidate as the Regional Director of the World Health Organization’s Southeast Regional Office.
