Medicines for patients with COVID-19 have more serious side effects than vaccine – Human – Science and technology

The head of the department of anesthesiology and intensive care at the hospital on Antolská Street in Petržalka, Jakub Hložník, pointed out that doctors do not know whether the medicines administered to the patient with COVID-19 will help at all.

Corticosteroids, antibiotics, medicines for pressure, sedatives, artificial nutrition, and many other medications given to hospitalized patients with COVID-19 have incomparably more serious side effects than a vaccine against coronavirus infection. Jakub Hložník, head of the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine at the hospital on Antolská Street in Petržalka, talks about this in a video of the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic on the social network.

“When we compare the side effects that these drugs have with the vaccine, it is clear to us that the benefit of the vaccine is huge compared to the drugs,” said Hložník. He added that corticoids can, for example, disrupt metabolism, suppress immunity or cause diabetes, antibiotics, colitis and medicines for pressure can have a negative effect on the circulatory system. He also noted that doctors do not know whether the medication, which will be taken to the hospital with a diagnosis of COVID-19, will help to get out of the difficult condition at all. “It is clear to us that vaccination as a prevention is an incomparable benefit compared to the subsequent treatment of patients in our country,” added Hložník.

He also likened COVID to Russian roulette, because no one knows when he will get the disease and what he will do with his health. Patients experience long-term consequences, such as thrombosis or embolism, and dozens are even waiting for lung or heart transplants. The consequences of an infection can be borne for the rest of one’s life, but side effects after vaccination will appear within a few months. He also added that even if the immunity is sufficient after overcoming the disease, we are not sure that we will survive the disease.
