Two displays in a small body. This is how Asus imagined the future of premium laptops years ago, and this year it proves that it is approaching perfection. Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED shows what the second screen in a laptop should look like.
Zenbooks have always been something special. Whether it was perfect workmanship, small size or original features. For example, a touchpad that turned into a numeric keypad with a single click, or minimal frames around the display before the onset of this trend. This year it is the arrival of OLED panels and in combination with two displays it is a machine that you will want to take with you anywhere.
Asus Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED, which we will introduce today, is the latest addition to the Duo family of devices. These feature a second screen in the area where the keyboard is. Of course, the user did not lose the hardware buttons, because they are moved closer to the bottom edge and there is also a touchpad.
The notebook has a 14.5 ”display with a resolution of 2.8K and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. It is of the OLED type and boasts 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 color space, a brightness of 550 nits and a response speed of 0.2 ms. OLED technology provides uncompromising contrast when black pixels are completely turned off. You will not be disturbed by light glowing black bars in the film, and you can rely on accurate and true colors when working with graphics.
The display is in a 16:10 ratio, making it clear that it is aimed at productivity. But don’t be fooled, you can also play on your laptop, especially in the more powerful specification with the RTX 3050 Ti. On the 120Hz display you will have less and moderately demanding games completely smooth. Performance is complemented by a Core i9-12900H processor and up to 32 GB of LPDDR5 RAM at 4,800 Mhz. We must not forget the 2 TB SSD connected via fast PCIe 4.0.
The main attraction laptop however, it is not the specifications of the internal components, but especially the second ScreenPad Plus display. It is a 12.7 ”screen of the IPS type, which connects to the main display. Asus has chosen IPS technology for this panel, but thanks to its great viewing angles, matte finish and brightness of 500 nits, it is a great second to the main OLED display.
ScreenPad Plus is a touch screen, which we can also say about the main display. Asus has equipped this display with a number of software functions. For example, you can put practical controls for Photoshop and other Adobe programs or any window on the bottom panel. In practice, this is an improved second screen, and there are no limits to the imagination when using it. You can play on the main display and leave help, Discord or a video stream open at the bottom.
The main use of the two displays is simply any multitasking. Thanks to ScreenPad Plus, you always have an overview and there is no need to pull additional hardware in the form of a monitor, cables and reducers. In addition, the cooling system also benefits from the whole concept. Where the keyboard would take the place of the fans, there is now a thin but at the same time robust display with a tilting construction. Mechanism laptop when opened, it creates a gap between the display and the fans, helping to cool components more efficiently and quietly.
At the same time, by tilting the ScreenPad Plus, the screen rotates towards the user at a better viewing angle. As a result, the gap between the displays is deleted and the entire system of screens creates a follow-up impression.
Asus has included in the premium laptop “not only two” great displays, but also a number of ports. There are two Thunderbolt 4 connectors, USB-A, Micro SD card reader or full HDMI 2.1 on the rear. We must also mention Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2. The Windows Hello-enabled webcam takes care of logging in, and Harman / Kardon speakers with Dolby Atmos support will play beautifully for you.
You will be supported on the road by 76 Wh batteries and the best in the end – the whole laptop weighs only 1.7 kilograms. Two displays, above-average connectivity and high performance are no longer the domain of heavy and large laptops. Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED shows that even in a small body, the king of productivity can hide. A laptop that is simply exceptional.
