2020 was not an easy year for Volkswagen, in reality it was not an easy year for the entire automotive sector, which suffered a big blow due to the Coronavirus pandemic that has involved (and still involves) the whole world .
The crisis of the entire automotive sector was truly unparalleled, the levels of registrations have unfortunately touched historical lows. 2020 ended with impressive numbers, despite the small signs of recovery last summer, thanks to the incentives promoted by the government, aimed at fighting the negative wave caused mainly by the lockdown and the closure of all economic activities, except those considered essential.
Unfortunately we are not out of it yet, Covid-19 is taking a lot from us. And in this already not at all positive climate, after the ID.3, the Volkswagen electric that caused several problems to the brand in 2020, as if that were not enough, today is the turn of the Golf 8, the new generation of the queen of the Home. The latest version of the hatchback is considered practically unmissable, with all the usual brand quality. Yet unfortunately some mistakes have been made and today the German brand must recall 56,000 units for some software problems, to be resolved at the authorized workshops.
The cars with problems, as indicated by the manufacturer, are those produced up to July 2020; the recently produced Golf 8s should therefore be safe. Golf 8 last year, despite the crisis, sold 312,000 units in Europe, confirming itself as the most loved car by motorists of the old continent. In the second half of the year 179,000 were sold, it was also the most registered car in Germany, followed by two other best sellers of the brand, the Tiguan and the Passat.
No car safety problems, despite the recall: Volkswagen is keen to underline this. There are only flaws in the software for managing the infotainment or the rear view camera, which customers have complained a lot about.
The campaign was not imposed by the German supervisory authorities, but it is voluntary. In fact, it does not affect any element relevant to safety. Even the Volkswagen ID.3 unfortunately, last year, had problems for which the launch of the first electric in Wolfsburg was postponed. Chief Executive Herbert Diess admitted that it was initially difficult to meet the emissions limits for 2020.
