Matvienko hopes for the transition of the assessment of trade from China to rubles and yuan

In the future, Moscow and Beijing will begin to estimate the volume of mutual trade in national currencies, Federation Council Chairman Valentina Matviyenko hopes.

During the videoconference with Li Zhanshu, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China, the speaker of the Federation Council noted that China is leading as Russia’s leading foreign trade partner. According to the results of 2021, bilateral turnover grew by more than 30% and came close to a record high of $140 billion.

“I hope that in the future we will talk about the volume of our mutual trade turnover, naming figures in yuan and rubles. We are gradually moving towards the goal of increasing the volume of trade to $200 billion by 2024,” Matviyenko said.

The politician stressed that such impressive results were achieved largely thanks to the efforts of Russian President Vladimir Putin and President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping, “between whom a special relationship of trust has been established.”

In her opinion, the Inter-Parliamentary Commission on Cooperation between the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the National People’s Congress of China should discuss the issues of transformation of the monetary system and the accelerated process of de-dollarization of the world economy.
