Maserati has revealed the design of the new GranTurismo Folgore, the first electric model in the brand’s history

Italian car manufacturer Maserati is preparing to enter the electric era with the new generation GranTurismo. When it makes its debut sometime in 2023, the iconic coupe will mark the appearance of the first electric model in the history of the brand.

Announced since the beginning of this year, it is called Folgore. The Modena-based company is now publishing an official video revealing the car’s design. The video is also accompanied by a series of technical information about the zero-emission GT.

Made at the Mirafiori production hub, the new GranTurismo Folgore will debut on the market next year and proposes technical solutions derived from Formula E.

The new Maserati GranTurismo Folgore will offer over 1,200 hp

The current Maserati GranTurismo was launched in 2007 and has been on the market for 12 years. In November 2019, company officials decided to stop production of the gasoline-powered GT. The Maserati plant in Modena produced the last copy of the current generation GranTurismo 3 years ago. The model was called Zeda and was made together with the Centro Stile Maserati customization division.

The video released today reveals the exterior design of the all-electric coupe, which bears some resemblance to the current coupe. Although we are dealing with a fully electric car, the Italians have not given up the large front grille. This is flanked by two additional air intakes.

The headlights come with new bright LED graphics, while the hood features more ribbing for a sportier look. The source of inspiration for the current GT can also be seen in the taillights, which are very similar to those on the old model. The charging socket was located under the left taillight.

According to the information published by Maserati, the GranTurismo Folgore will need only 5 minutes to charge for an autonomy of 100 kilometers. Also, charging the battery for an autonomy of 160 kilometers will take 10 minutes.

The future Folgore will use three electric motors, which together will deliver over 1,200 horsepower. Under these conditions, the electric coupe will be able to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds. The maximum speed will be over 320 km/h. In addition, in the video it can be seen that the car is equipped with an artificial sound system, which imitates the noise of a high-powered thermal engine.

The new Maserati GranTurismo Folgore will be officially launched during 2023. Starting in 2025, the Italian brand will offer electric versions for all models in the range. Maserati has set out to become a 100% electric brand in 2030.
