Ana Masago’s ‘Avelut’ presentation

Ana Masago from Martorell has presented at the Francesc Pujols Library Avelutnovel that becomes the second part of the series Maveth (death). A work that rubs the thriller and which is the continuation of Shit, and in which Sergeant Harris returns to explain his personal and professional affairs. At the event, Masago was accompanied by psychologist Javier Garrido, who introduced her.

This new installment deals with a new type of murder that takes place in the imaginary county of Metal and, specifically, in Tim Town. They are investigated by the FBI, and are called thefts or fetal thefts, since the sole purpose is to seize the unborn baby. A pregnant girl has lost her life and another is in a coma in hospital. The press, which has reported on these acts, has named the perpetrator of the crimes as El Coco.

The only witness who could help find the culprit cannot speak, as she is in a coma after the brutal attack she suffered to remove her future child from her insides. The plot turns into a race against time to find the baby alive before all traces of it disappear forever.

Hard stories, which “hit and surprise the reader. We’ve had enough of the monotony”, acknowledged the same author in the program Martorelletres from Radio Martorell.

As it happens in Shit, Sergeant Tom Harris will have to solve the case. A man, full of problems outside and inside his home, “has an OCD or obsessive compulsive disorder that manifests itself with an obsession with symmetry. For example, when he pulls out the tip of the pencil he has to put them all in a row, when he has to check a thousand times a day that the doors are closed or when he cleans his hands. He has obsessions and then has compulsions to solve them.”

Masago admits that they are “hard stories that hit the reader” and that many of his readers tell him “how can it be that I write such forceful things that do not match my character”. The answer is “one of my favorite writers is Stephen King and I like to watch movies based on the noir novel. All this is what moves me, since the romantic novel does not attract me so much.”
