The National Day of Catalonia was celebrated today in Martorell with events throughout the day and with many local entities involved in the celebrations of September 11. Despite the limitations imposed by the pandemic, some celebrations have closed that began yesterday evening with the floral offering in the tomb of Sant Bartomeu.
The main course has arrived this Sunday very early. About twenty people have climbed the Sierra de Les Torretes to take off the flag and hang it and make it visible in all the streets of Martorell. The procession set off at around 8 in the morning, picked up the flag and raised it to make it shine from the heights.
The leader of the Capgrossos de Martorell gang is Josep Segura and this has been one of the entities that has taken part. Segura was happy with how the day went: “the day went very well for us and we did it like last year, in a reduced format”.

At almost the same time, the Association of Old and Classic Motorcycles of Martorell have begun the rally to ride from the Church Square to Piera, Sant Llorenç d’Hortons and Gelida. About 40 motorcycles and about 60 people were part of the start and closed the route at the same point where they started. Although they stopped at the Creu de l’Aragall to hang the flag, they could not finish the aperitif that was held in previous years.
In this sense, the president of the AMCAM, Jordi Vives said that the start surprised them in terms of the time it lasted, “we even went fast”, and congratulated the attendees because everything went perfectly and everyone has been receptive. ”

And during the noon there was also a sardana dance, an activity organized by the Sardanista Section of Martorell. About 40 attendees at the Teatre El Progrés were able to enjoy the music offered by the Cobla Vila d’Olesa. All the sardana players who have taken part have done so in compliance with the rules established by the health authorities and for which it is mandatory to use the mask and dance in groups of a maximum of 10 people.
Habaneras and burnt rum as a conclusion
After the morning activity, the National Day of Catalonia ended in Martorell with the performance of the group Rems. This trio has brought habaneras to the El Progrés garden track to the more than 170 people who attended. The burnt rum has accompanied the singing and has put an end to a day that has been forced to adapt, for the second year in a row, to the pandemic and its limitations.
The mayor of Martorell Xavier Fonollosa and the councilors Gerard Mimó, Sole Rosende, Raquel Sans and Rosa Cadenas have attended this morning the floral offering that is celebrated in the tomb of Rafael Casanova, in Sant Boi de Llobregat, and have delivered flowers at the foot of the monument.
