“Many are not allowed to take risks due to the fault of the few”

“The intention of the government is not to divide the citizens into vaccinated or not. I want to reiterate: Our respect for every citizen’s right to vote is a given. At the same time, however, as a State we have a duty to protect the right to life and work of all citizens “, said the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Anastasiadis.

In a speech to the citizens on the occasion of the deterioration of the epidemiological picture that Cyprus presents in recent days with the increase of Covid incidents, President N. Anastasiadis stated that the tightening of the decision to display a safety card (SafePass) aims to:
* not to endanger the country’s health system, ensuring the health of citizens
* not to jeopardize the viability of companies that are consequently linked to jobs
* not to jeopardize the right to unhindered enjoyment of the freedoms of those who have been vaccinated “.

As N. Anastasiadis pointed out, based on the data of the medical services, 9 out of 10 people who show serious symptoms and are hospitalized, have not been vaccinated or have not completed their vaccination regimen, while the majority are people under 40 years old. The criticality of the situation is also demonstrated by the fact that in the week of July 8-15, there were 6,853 cases of Covid, while yesterday the number of patients reached 181.

“It is for this reason that many are not allowed to take risks due to the fault of the few. The few to deprive the freedom of the many. “Few to threaten social cohesion and restrict the right of many to return to conditions of full normalcy”, noted Mr. Anastasiadis and pointed out: “I am sure that you share my findings, concerns and concerns, even if they are not desirable the measures we have announced, or will announce in the afternoon.

I wish we had other options, but we must realize that, as scientists find, the virus will now be part of our lives, for an unknown time.

That is why they are of the opinion that only through vaccination will the strengthening of the immune wall of the population be achieved as soon as possible.

I want to believe that the goals that have been set and the whole effort are common and will have the support of society as a whole, of the political forces, of the Church, of the mass media, of organized groups, of the scientific community, but also of workers and of business people. What we are forced to follow is not our arbitrary view. They are the proven position of the scientific community that either we are vaccinated or we will get sick with all the consequent consequences. It is time that with seriousness, responsibility and a sense of solidarity, each of us individually take the matter of life and health of all in our own hands. Let this time be the continuation of the vaccination chain and not its disintegration. A chain that will lead to the final relief from the pandemic.

I trust you because we were tested in worse than the current crisis and together we managed to overcome them. Together we will succeed again. I’m sure about that. For that and thank you “concluded the President of Cyprus.

The new decisions of the Cypriot government for the suppression of the coronavirus pandemic will be announced at 6 pm by the Minister of Health of Cyprus, Michalis Hadjipandelas.
