The Danish documentary film director Mads Brügger’s latest film, ‘The Mole’, has been sold to 15 countries, writes MediaWatch.
The documentary, which for a number of years infiltrates the North Korean regime and reveals illegal sales of weapons and drugs and general villainous behavior, has been produced with support from DR, NRK, SVT and the BBC.
According to DR, there are negotiations with a large number of other countries to buy the documentary, which received great international attention at its premiere in October.
Here at the newspaper, we were – like the general reviewer corps – very enthusiastic about the documentary.
“It may not be the big surprise that Kim Jong-un is ignoring international sanctions behind the scenes, but it is new that it is being documented as openly as here. And it is probably also surprising to many that North Korea is so well established in the global black market that its envoys can fly freely between Europe, Africa and the Middle East to do business with a product catalog full of submarines, tanks and long-range missiles. In other words: This does not look good, ‘as our reviewer wrote.
‘When watching Netflix documentaries that really have global impact, then you think a little; can we not also with our proud tradition of documentaries in DR manage to enter a much larger market? ‘The Mole’ is an example of that, ‘says Erling Groth, documentary editor at DR, to MediaWatch.
