Luxembourg Prime Minister Bettel tests positive for COVID-19

Barend Leyts, spokesman for the European Council Charles Michel, announced that they received information that the test result was positive after Prime Minister Bettel showed mild symptoms this morning.

Leyts stated that they were informed that Bettel, who attended the EU Leaders’ Summit held in Brussels on 24-25 June, was not in close contact with the leaders of the EU countries before showing the symptoms.

Noting that Bettel’s test, which was done just before the summit meetings, was negative, Leyts stated that the European Council took all measures to ensure social distance during the meetings.

In a statement from Bettel’s office, it was reported that the prime minister showed symptoms such as headache and mild fever. It was noted that Bettel will stay at home for 10 days and will continue to work from home.

Bettel announced on May 6 that she had received the first dose of AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine.
