The President of Belarus, Alexandr Lukashenko, announced on Tuesday that he will reinforce the border with Ukraine after being “forced” by a “bad” situation in which it is necessary to be “prepared for anything”.
“I am forced to do it because the situation on the border with Ukraine is as bad as the situation on the border with Poland,” President Lukashenko said Tuesday during a ceremony at the Belarusian National Academy of Sciences, reports Belta news agency.
“Do not think that we are increasing tensions, but if something happens, we must be prepared for anything,” explained the Belarusian president, who has therefore emphasized the need to “strengthen” the almost 1,500 kilometers of border that he shares with Ukraine.
A preplanned decision
In that sense, he pointed out that this decision had already been “planned” previously, after a series of talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, but the current situation has caused the plans to be accelerated.
Although Lukashenko has stressed that Belarus “does not need this war”, he has also defended the position of showing that the Army is “prepared” to respond to any situation. “It is a demonstration of our strength. They should see that we are not alone and that we will defend ourselves if necessary,” he warned.
