Lower Blood Sugar, Eat Protein and Vegetables before Carbohydrates!

Suara.com – A research study has suggested eating vegetables and protein first before consuming carbohydrates to control blood sugar and insulin levels.

Because, the food you eat has a big role in determining blood sugar and insulin levels afterwards, especially in obese people.

A group of researchers from Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City has conducted research on the relationship between the order of food consumed and blood sugar levels.

The research studies emphasize the importance of eating in order. The study found that when vegetables and protein were to be eaten before carbohydrate glucose levels were much lower at the 30, 60 and 120 minute tests, they were about 29 percent, 37 percent and 17 percent, respectively.

“Based on these findings, your doctor may recommend that you eat certain foods first, instead of forbidding you to eat these and those,” said Dr. Louis Aronne quoted from Times of India.

Dr Aronne, who is also director of the Comprehensive Weight Control Center at Weill Cornell, said it was difficult to ask someone to reduce their carbohydrate intake.

This study shows an easier way, so that patients can lower their blood sugar and insulin levels.

People with type 2 diabetes usually do a finger prick test to check their glucose levels. If blood sugar levels are consistently high or spike frequently, the patient is at risk for complications.

Because diabetes is a disease that has the risk of causing severe complications, we need to prevent it early.
