LNKC director Signe Pujāte has pointed out that when face-to-face processes in the areas supervised by the center – cultural education, amateur art groups and cultural centers – are prohibited, last year LNKC was able to purposefully implement measures that provide long-term contribution to both strengthening tradition, as well as the professional development of cultural professionals.
LNKC has created methodical audio material for the 100,000 euros allocated for the development of the Song and Dance Festival repertoire, which provides an opportunity for the approximately 15,000 large community of choir conductors and singers in Latvia and the diaspora to learn the festival repertoire also in remote mode.
Kazlauskiene said that in the project the choir’s voice recordings were made for the XXVII General Latvian Song and XVII Dance Festival Choir Grand Concert Field. The path of the song, the 100th anniversary concert of the Kokari brothers Brother, brother, Songs included in the repertoire of the Latvian Women’s and Men’s Choir Festival and the Latvian Senior Choir Festival. This year, the project will be continued, providing voice recordings for the 2023 Song and Dance Festival Closing Concert repertoire.
The funding helped to prepare the music collections of the repertoire of the Latvian women’s and men’s choir gathering planned for 2021 in Tukums, as well as the music collections for women’s, men’s, mixed and children’s vocal ensembles. The three original editions of 109 original works by 27 authors and finishes for kokle ensembles of various compositions, which is an important addition to the repertoire of kokle music, were expressed by a representative of LNKC.
In turn, thinking about bringing the Latvian stage dance heritage to life in the repertoires of dance groups, last year the recordings of the musical accompaniment of several dances included in the Golden Fund of Latvian stage dance were renewed.
Kazlauskiene noted that in order to promote the creation of new dramatic works and strengthen the connection between playwrights and amateur theater directors, in autumn 2020 LNKC announced the first round of the Latvian National Play Competition, receiving 22 play ideas. This year, the competition continues – the candidates nominated for the second round will have to submit a full manuscript of the play by September.
According to the representative of LNKC, 63,335 euros of the funding allocated to reduce the impact of Covid-19 have been invested in the implementation of professional development measures for specialists in the field of culture. At the beginning of the autumn, the events took place in the regions in person, later, according to the government, in online format.
More than 1,000 participants attended courses for vocational education teachers in the field of cultural education. Their content is based on the results of the target audience survey. The seminars were devoted to topical issues of methodology in music, art and design professional education programs, as well as to strengthening the digital competence of teachers. Teachers got acquainted with the principles of positive upbringing in the digital age, listened to the prevention of professional burnout and acquired the digital skills necessary for work.
More than 400 professionals in the field of regional cultural institutions – cultural specialists, heads of cultural centers and organizers of cultural work in municipalities – attended the course Managing change in a cultural organization on leading cultural organizations and ensuring the creative process in times of crisis and change.
Professional development measures have also been implemented in the intangible cultural heritage sector. More than 600 representatives of folklore, folk music and applied arts, as well as organizers of cultural work strengthened their knowledge of intangible cultural heritage, traditional culture and the necessities of daily work, including methods for providing remote work, explained Kazlauskiene.
