LJUBLJANA REDUCES ELECTRICITY CONSUMPTION

The city of Ljubljana is currently implementing numerous projects of energy renovation of buildings, and renewing and regulating public lighting that ensures appropriate visibility conditions.

Public areas and infrastructure are lit primarily with the aim of increasing safety, and the system is constantly updated and upgraded, in accordance with guidelines in the field of energy efficiency and reduction of light pollution. This is achieved in Ljubljana with adaptive public lighting systems, which adjust lighting levels based on data on traffic density and weather conditions. By renewing the decorative lighting of certain cultural and historical monuments, a reduction in electricity consumption by 85 percent was achieved.

With the aim of achieving additional savings and reducing electricity consumption, on November 22, 2022, the City of Ljubljana made a decision to reduce the light level of public lighting poles that are connected to the smart lighting management system via the SCADA system. Also, the decorative lighting of monuments and bridges will be turned off at certain times, as well as in certain parking lots, assuming that the lamps are connected to smart control via the SCADA system, so that they can be effectively controlled from the control center.

In the City of Ljubljana, they expect to save more than 40 percent of electricity in this way.

The New Year’s decoration will also be adjusted to the needs of saving, so it will be extinguished earlier in selected locations and wherever possible. In the City of Ljubljana, they estimate that a total of 15 kilometers of LED lighting has been installed in the city center, and since the lighting will now be on for 10 hours instead of 24 hours as in previous years, electricity consumption will be reduced by about 40 percent.
