Livonia’s rugby players score more than 100 points in a convincing victory in LC Rugby-15 / Day

The multiple Latvian champion and current vice-champion “Livonia” has started this year’s championship in rugby-15 successfully, winning all the games so far. First, in mid-April, in the first game of the season, Valmiera’s “Fenikss” team was convincingly defeated 62:7, then a month later in mid-May, in the second half, they achieved a decisive advantage over the tenacious bronze medal winners “Eži” and won another convincing victory with 59:18. Yesterday in Latvia’s best rugby stadium in Upesciems, the winning streak was continued, achieving the expected success, and with a huge margin.

In the first two games, the “Livonia” team showed a good performance and won convincing victories, and in yesterday’s game, the finalists of the Baltic Top League were also expected to win with a large margin. The Livonians managed to achieve a result worthy of a productive basketball game, i.e. score more than one hundred points. Nine different players made touchdowns in the ranks of “Livonia”, but two – Edgar Vasiliev and Gleb Vorobyov – managed to do it three times each.

Such a very large advantage is not a surprise, because even though the second game of the last year’s championship between the two teams ended with 45:10 in favor of “Livonia”, in the first game last year an even bigger result was recorded – 127:3.

This year, according to the new system, where each team plays each other only once, it is not so important how much the other opponents are defeated by – whether by 30, 50 or 100 points, because the main thing is, of course, the two best teams – “Livonia ” and “Miesnieki” game, which will take place next Wednesday in Baldone and in which this year’s Latvian champions will be determined.

“Livonia” head coach Mārcis Rullis: “We used this game as a good training for next Wednesday’s decisive match. We performed tactical tasks. It worked well for the first 30 minutes, but later, when the shifts happened, the tasks got a little messy.”

The assistant coach of “Livonia”, Donovan Du Rand (South Africa), also says that this was a good practice match: “We had several rugby-7 games, so it’s very good that yesterday we could play the Latvian championship game in rugby-15 with the “Lāči” team. to be able to prepare for the game against “Miesnieki”. Yesterday’s game was a good practice to try to retrain and the boys did well. New players listen very carefully to instructions and follow them. It makes me happy,” Du Rand praises the young players.

The South African specialist admits that the attack worked very well in the game with the “Bears”, but did not get to check the defense properly: “In the attack, everything went very well for us in yesterday’s game. We did what we wanted. The opponent did not allow us to test the defense. We didn’t play that well defensively at the end of the game when we let the Bears score a touchdown.”
