Lexus continues its offensive on the SUV market with its new model. The TX is the new luxury SUV from the Japanese manufacturer and has up to 406 hp.
Lexus is attacking the 7-seat crossover segment with the new TX. For now, the car will only be available in North America, being specially designed for the market there.
The new model ditches the famous Lexus grille, already enshrined on many models, in favor of a design that Lexus calls the “Unified Spindle”, an element that prioritizes aerodynamic performance. As part of this, the traditional grille has been replaced by a unitary dial, painted in body color but looking a little too plain. The simple grille is flanked by slim headlights with LED daytime running lights.
Overall, the new model has a rather svelte appearance, with good lines. Designers have given the SUV a longer jamb line, a D-pillar finished in black and a thin rear light bar. These are accompanied by a slightly sloping roof and 20- or 22-inch wheels. With a length of approximately 5.16 meters, a width of 1.98 meters and a height of 1.78 meters, the new Lexus TX is not a small car, it can even be compared to models such as the BMW X7 or the Mercedes-Benz GLS in the dimensions chapter.
The Lexus TX is a new family SUV for North America
Lexus car interiors have adopted a minimalist aesthetic lately, and the TX is no exception, as it has a premium but not overly extravagant cabin. The SUV offers a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a standard 14-inch diagonal infotainment system.
The Lexus TX will be offered in Standard, Premium, Luxury and F Sport Performance trim levels, though details are scarce. However, the company has revealed a number of options, including a head-up display, multi-colour ambient lighting and a 21-speaker Mark Levinson premium audio system. We can also see controls for a heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated front seats and a power tailgate. Passengers in the second row of seats will find climate control and heating controls in the seat.
Engines with powers up to 406 HP
Like the Grand Highlander, the Lexus TX will be offered with three different powertrains, according to Carscoops. The entry-level model, the TX 350, has a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that develops 275 hp and 429 Nm of torque. The second version, called TX 500h, gets a hybrid engine, also 2.4 liters, but which now delivers 366 HP and 554 Nm.
The most powerful version, the TX 550h, gets a 3.5-liter plug-in hybrid V6 engine that develops 406 hp. In purely electric driving mode, this version has an autonomy of 53 kilometers.
The new Lexus TX will sit between the RX and the new generation GX. For now, the Japanese manufacturer has not revealed the prices of the new model, and it will be available, for the time being, only on the North American market.
