On the 23rd, Seongbuk-gu (Lee Seung-ro, Seongbuk-gu Office Chief) ran the 4th round of ‘2023 Let’s talk openly in the office of the head of the district office (TALK)’ under the theme of ‘welfare field’ at Seongbuk Media Culture Maru in Seoul.

About 300 residents, including senior job seekers and workers in related facilities, and heads of related departments, including Lee Seung-ro, mayor of Seongbuk-gu, participated. In order to revitalize jobs for the elderly, we had time to communicate by listening to each other’s opinions and finding solutions together.

Lee Seung-ro, the mayor of Seongbuk-gu, who took the stage wearing jeans, shouted “jeans” before the full-scale start, and all the participants responded in unison, “Youth is now,” and made up their minds to create “Seongbuk where the elderly are lively and confident.”

Subsequently, discussions were held on five resident proposals that had been submitted in advance through online and offline channels. It consists of various agendas such as ‘Improvement of training methods for senior job participants’, ‘Expansion of employment opportunities for seniors’, and ‘Expansion of welfare centers for the elderly’. We sympathized with the reality of participating in the Elderly Employment Project, and thought together about various contents, from small inconveniences to contents that need to be reflected in policies. In addition, I was able to hear the answer of Lee Seung-ro, the head of the district, who has a deep affection for the elderly.

In the immediate question-and-answer session that followed the discussion on the resident proposal, more diverse stories could be heard. In-depth residents’ opinions were raised, such as improving the senior club’s environment and manpower expansion, and Seongbuk-gu’s future job opportunities for the elderly and welfare measures for the elderly.

Regarding this, District Mayor Lee Seung-ro promised to come up with measures not only in the district itself but also in cooperation with higher-level organizations to revitalize jobs for the elderly.

‘2023 Let’s talk openly with the Mayor’s Office TALK’ is different from the existing way of operating by dong, and sets five topics such as children’s happiness, youth, community, welfare, and resident autonomy, and discusses in depth with the mayor and residents.
