There would be around thirty establishments concerned for analyzes carried out between 2015 and 2020. They are linked by software, called Mega-Bus, created by the Dedalus company, which allows data management in biology.

These data, initially managed by software, would have been transferred to internal servers in the laboratories. By making this transition, the files were no longer secure would have been intercepted by several hackers, who would then have quarreled over the marketing of the data. One of the hackers then allegedly broadcast them for free as a sign of revenge, until they were spotted in a loop in the Telegram messaging network.

60 information per patient

For each patient, the number of information is estimated at 60. Some files reveal treatments, or pathologies, such as HIV, a brain tumor … risk of identity or social security number theft that this leak causes, patients can be the targets of phishing campaigns, scams.

The Dedalus company denies any responsibility for this leak. If, for the moment, no solution has been found to delete data from the internet, an investigation has just been opened by the Paris prosecutor’s office, and entrusted to the Central Office for the Fight against Crime Related to Information and Communication Technologies (OCLCTIC).
