Launch of the 25th year of the Werner von Siemens Prize

The twenty-fifth year of the Werner von Siemens Prize for students of engineering, science and medicine and young scientists has been announced. In order for the support of science and education to be meaningful, it must be systematic and long-term. By holding the Werner von Siemens Prize competition for a quarter of a century, Siemens has been proving how important it considers technical and scientific education and pedagogical work.

Candidates can apply through the website www.​cenasiemens.​cz until November 30, 2022.

The twenty-fifth year will distribute one million crowns in eight categories, in the best diploma and dissertation category, together with the students, the supervisors/tutors will also receive an award and a financial reward.
The financial rewards that Siemens distributed among 431 winning students, scientists and teachers in the past 24 years amounted to 14.3 million crowns.

Vy­hla­šo­va­né ka­te­go­rie:

  1. Most significant basic research result (individual or research team);
  2. Nej­lep­ší pe­da­go­gic­ký pra­cov­ník;
  3. The best diploma thesis (first three places + supervisor thesis);
  4. Best dissertation (first three places) + supervisor);
  5. Award for overcoming obstacles to study (the student is nominated from among academic staff within the given university from bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral studies);
  6. Special award for the outstanding quality of women’s scientific work;
  7. The best graduate thesis (diploma/dissertation) dealing with topics of the Industry 4.0 concept;
  8. Best graduate thesis (diploma/dissertation) dealing with smart infrastructure and energy;

  • prof. RNDr. Eva Zažímalová, CSc. (President, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic) – The most significant result of basic research (individual or research team);
  • prof. MD Martin Bareš, Ph.D. (rector, Masaryk University in Brno) – Best teaching staff;
  • doc. Ing. Ladislav Janíček Ph.D., MBA, LL.M. (rector, Brno University of Technology) – Best diploma thesis (first three places + supervisor thesis);
  • doc. RNDr. Vojtěch Petráček, CSc. (rector, Czech University of Technology in Prague) – Best dissertation (first three places + supervisor);
  • prof. MD Martin Bareš, Ph.D. (Chairman, Czech Rectors’ Conference) – Award for overcoming obstacles to study (a student is nominated from among academic staff within the given university from bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral studies);
  • Ing. Eduard Palíšek, Ph.D., MBA (CEO, Siemens CR) – Special award for the excellent quality of female scientific work;
  • prof. Ing. Vladimír Mařík, DrSc., dr. hc (scientific director, Czech Institute of Informatics, Robotics and Cybernetics, CTU) – Best graduate work (diploma/dissertation) dealing with topics of the Industry 4.0 concept;
  • prof. Ing. Stanislav Mišák, Ph.D. (director, Center for the Energy Utilization of Non-Traditional Energy Sources VŠB-TUO) – Best graduate work (diploma/dissertation) dealing with smart infrastructure and energy.

In the last year of the competition, representatives of the Czech Technical University in Prague (6 awards), the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic (5 awards) and the Brno University of Technology (3 awards) won the most awards. Two awards were won by the Technical University of Liberec and the University of Mining and Technology in Ostrava and the Palacký University in Olomouc, one award was won by Charles University.

The general public can also participate in the nominations – candidates and their work can be nominated via the website www.​cenasiemens.​cz. If the nominated candidate wins, the nominator will receive a bonus of CZK 10,000.
