The US Department of Defense believes that Kyiv is still in danger, despite the partial withdrawal of Russian troops.

This was stated by a senior Pentagon spokesman on Thursday, commenting on the withdrawal of Russian troops to positions north and east of the Ukrainian capital, according to “Voice of America“.

“Kyiv is still in danger and air strikes continue,” he said.

He added that “we have not seen much difference in the last 24 hours, there has been no mass movement, at least not yet.”

According to a Pentagon spokesman, the redeployment of Russian troops from near Kyiv indicates that Russian military leaders understand that their attempt to take the capital has failed.

He also noted that the fighting spirit of Russian soldiers is low.

“We continue to see problems of unit cohesion, problems with command and control, and problems with sound leadership,” the U.S. military spokesman said.

The Pentagon says it has heard anecdotes about poor performance on the battlefield and the oppression of Russian soldiers, but “it’s all on the level of rumors and anecdotes, and we can’t say for sure whether it’s just parts or general trends.”

However, the Pentagon spokesman believes that all these stories only confirm some of the main problems that have emerged in the Russian Armed Forces.

“This is an army that does not have a non-commissioned officer corps like the West, so it does not have effective command of small units, and you will not even see any grassroots initiative …” a Pentagon spokesman said.

In addition, on Thursday, British intelligence said that from 1.2 thousand to 2 thousand Russian servicemen in Georgia will be reorganized into three battalion tactical groups and these groups will be transferred to Ukraine.

As UNIAN reported, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Russian occupation forces are partially withdrawing from the north of Kyiv region to Belarus.

The General Staff believes that after the resumption of combat capability of the withdrawn units is expected to move them to other areas.
