On Wednesday, in the third round of the elite group stage of the Russian Cup 2021/22, Krasnodar unexpectedly lost 0: 3 (0: 2) to Kuban in the FNL. A double on the account of forward Maxim Lauk. This victory allowed the yellow-greens to reach the 1/8 finals of the tournament. And the “bulls” – one of the leaders of the RPL – sensationally flew out of the drawing.
Not so long ago, the derby with the participation of two teams from the capital of the southern region in the national championship was, without exaggeration, a notable event in our football. All these matches, without exception, turned out to be exciting.
By the way, in a recent interview, the president of Krasnodar, Sergei Galitsky, admitted that he lacks these games. “Derby with“ Kuban ”? It’s always cool. I miss them in the Premier League, of course. It’s cool when the city is divided into two colors. That was“ Spartak ”- CSKA. High! Except for respect, I have nothing to “Kuban”, – he said.
However, the last confrontation between the “bulls” and the yellow-greens took place almost six years ago, in December 2015, within the framework of the RPL. And by the way, local fans still remember him. Then “Kuban” was leading with a score of 2: 0, but “Krasnodar” not only bounced back, but also won in the dramatic ending with the efforts of Fedor Smolov – 3: 2.
Since then, the “bulls” managed to play even in the UEFA Champions League, but “Kuban” survived a fall into the second division, and is now fighting for survival in the National Football League.
And yet, the Russian Cup brought back the city derby, it seemed, from oblivion. Moreover, “Krasnodar” to reach the next round could even concede with a difference of one goal: in this group, the “bulls” won away from Leningradets (2: 0), but “Kuban” lost to the representative of the second division (0: 1). And to reach the 1/8 finals of the Russian Cup, the yellow-greens needed a victory with a difference of two goals.
Surprisingly, by the middle of the first half, they were performing this task! Having made the expected rate on counterattacks in a meeting with a representative of the RPL, “Kuban” (recently headed by Robert Evdokimov) conducted their sorties boldly and at very decent speeds. What the opponent was completely unprepared for.
And already in the opening, after Maxim Lauka hitting from 18 meters, the ball hit the foot of the central defender Yegor Sorokin and flew into the upper corner of the “bulls” goal – 1: 0, 6th minute.

And then a real masterpiece goal was performed by the yellow-green midfielder Vasily Aleinikov, who threw the ball into the net 40 meters through the goalkeeper Stanislav Agkatsev, who came out to the penalty line – 2: 0, 23rd minute.
Note that in both cases the defensive midfielder “bulls” Alexander Chernikov, who was first included in the extended list of the Russian national team, lost balls in the center of the field.
But everything for his team in the first half could have turned out even more sad, if the players of “Kuban” had realized two more sure scoring chances.
But “Krasnodar” (only Matvey Safonov, Victor Klasson, John Cordoba and Grzegosh Krykhovyak did not come out of the solid base players in the starting lineup), clearly dumbfounded by such an opponent’s attitude, could not establish their trademark attacking combinations with the participation of a large number of players. And he created only one dangerous moment in half: the shot of Evgeny Ilyin in the throw was repelled by the goalkeeper Andrei Klimovich.
Well, after the break, the bulls found themselves in a very difficult situation. At the 51st minute, Remy Cabella caught Lauca, who was torn into the penalty area, and the chief referee Eugene Turbin assessed this violation as a foul of the last resort, removing the French legionnaire from the field. As a result, “Krasnodar”, which was required to score at least one goal, remained with ten men.
The head coach of Krasnodar, Viktor Gancharenko, who, incidentally, coached Kuban in his time, made several changes in the hope of turning the game around.
However, the attacking actions of the “bulls” categorically failed. But another mistake by the defenders (this time by Daniil Kornyushin) led to a rapid attack by the Kuban and an accurate shot by Lauka (thus, the 26-year-old striker makes a double) from the penalty line into the far corner – 3: 0, 63rd minute.
“Bulls”, which appeared on the field and Klasson, and Cordoba, tried to do something, but to create dangerous moments at the gates of “Kuban” they practically failed.
In general, “Kuban” managed to bring the meeting to a sensational victory and reach the 1/8 finals of the tournament.
Well, “Krasnodar”, which remained for the first time in a long time without appearances in Europe, now also lost the Cup of Russia.
