KT pitcher sovereignty applied to KBO for annual salary adjustment… Can the winning probability break through the ‘5% wall’?

One of the indispensable players to advance to the first postseason of KT’s foundation last year is pitcher Ju Kwon (26). Sovereignty played a key role in the KT bullpen by playing 77 games, which is more than half of 144 games in the season, recording 6 wins, 2 losses and an average ERA of 2.70 at 31 holds.

As such, sovereignty expected an annual salary increase of over 100 million won. However, the club proposed 220 million won, an increase of 70 million won from 150 million won last year, and failed to reach an agreement with the sovereignty claiming 250 million won. Now, the players and the club must submit the supporting data for calculating the annual salary by the 18th, and KBO must form a coordination committee based on this and complete the adjustment to one of the club and player proposals by the 25th. Of course, if the KT club and sovereignty agree within this period, the application for mediation will be automatically invalidated. Interest is focused on whether the sovereignty claim will be accepted. So far, there have been a total of 97 applications for annual salary adjustment, but 77 of them were agreed before adjustment, and only 20 cases were actually made. Among them, the only case that KBO raised the player’s hand was Ji-hyun Ryu (currently LG manager) in 2002. At the time, LG demanded 190 million won and Ryu Ji-hyun demanded 220 million won.

As such, the probability of a player’s victory so far is only 5%. In the case of Lee Dae-ho in 2011, when he won 7 hits the previous year, KBO also accepted the position of the Lotte club. Therefore, there are some criticisms that KBO is a short club, but there are many interpretations that it is inevitably advantageous because the club has more refined annual salary calculation data than the players. However, in the case of sovereignty, it is different from before in that it is now supported by an agent with expertise rather than an individual player.

Meanwhile, regarding the controversy over the annual salary, KT has been negotiating with the salary set according to the salary evaluation system developed by the club. Instead, he is in a position to review ways to change the midterm pitcher contribution rating at the end of this season.
