Korea University K-MASTER project team achieved genome analysis of 8,000 cancer patients

Korea University Precision Medicine-based Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment Development Project (Project Manager, Kim Yeol-Hong, hereinafter K-MASTER Project Group) registered a total of 8,695 cancer patients by January 2021, of which 8,271 have performed genome profiling. It has secured 7,902 reports of genome analysis results, and is expected to complete the genome analysis of 10,000 cancer patients by the second half of this year by registering and analyzing an additional 3,000 people this year.

The clinical data analysis results of the K-MASTER project team, which are evaluated as national-level genome data analysis data, will be actively used for domestic new drug development and precision medical research in connection with the national bio big data business. Currently, a total of 20 clinical trials are being conducted for patients such as non-small cell lung cancer, breast cancer, gastric cancer, and salivary gland duct cancer linked to the results of genomic analysis.

“The country that has built a database of 10,000 cancer patients using a cancer precision medical convergence platform is not common in the world and is known to be the only one in Asia,” said Yeol-Hong Kim (Professor of Cancer Center, Korea University Anam Hospital). Through collaboration with specialized institutions, researchers are continuously exchanging strategies and experiences for clinical trials, and actively contributing to the development and activation of precision medical research and new anticancer drug diagnosis and treatments.”

Meanwhile, the K-MASTER project team was selected as the National Medical R&D Research Project Group in June 2017 and is a national strategic project project supported by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Ministry of Science and Technology Information and Communication. It provides advanced precision medical diagnosis and treatment to cancer patients and provides future strategies. It was designed to foster the industry.

K-MASTER PORTAL, a data sharing system that searches and visualizes analyzed genome information, can be viewed by researchers and the general public on the website (https://kmportal.or.kr).
