Oberstdorf (Germany) – Norwegian cross-country skier Johannes Höslflot Klaebo won the 15 km freestyle race in Oberstdorf with a start in the 3rd stage and increased the lead in the Tour de Ski. Adam Fellner scored 26th for the first time in his World Cup career. The race for the greatest Czech hope, Michal Novák, ended with disappointment, breaking the wand on the route and finishing 58th.
At the end of the race, Klaebo had the most strength of the four-member leading group, which formed about four kilometers before the finish. The winner of the opening sprint from Lenzerheide won by 3.4 seconds ahead of the defending champion in the Tour Alexander Bolshunov from Russia, followed by Nor Sjur Röthe and Andrew Musgrave.
Fellner reached the finish line with a gap of 53.7 seconds and at the age of 28 he recorded the best result in his career. In the beginning, he had to deal with a collision, but paradoxically it helped him. “I went to the race with the risk that I would take a risk and try to get as far forward as possible, but right on the first hill it got complicated because they kicked my stick. So I was at the end of the package. Fortunately I got a spare stick quite quickly and it can be said that it made me healthy, and I tried to pull the loss back, “he said in a press release of the Czech Union. “Then everything went relatively smoothly, until it surprised me. I entered the season knowing that I had to earn points. It’s an encouragement,” he added.
Petr Knop was 52nd. Novák, who started as the eighteenth man in the standings, finished six places behind him. In the first third of the race, he stayed with the best in the main group, but in the second round, after losing his wand, he fell into the sixth ten, from which he could not get after accelerating the pace. Novák lost his 33rd position in the Tour, Fellner is forty-first.
Klaebo leads the shortened miniseries by 45 seconds ahead of compatriot Paal Golbergerm, Bolshunov is third with a gap of another two seconds.
Women will ride the free ten from 15:25. On Saturday, sprints are classic in Oberstdorf.
