Robert Mühren also plays for SC Cambuur next season. The Frisian club hires the top scorer of the past Kitchen Champion Division season for another year from Zulte Waregem.
Partly due to the 26 league goals from Mühren, Cambuur had an excellent year last season and so the club wanted to continue with the 31-year-old Volendammer. “It was uncertain for a long time whether it was going to succeed, but we are very happy that it worked”, technical manager Foeke Booy said on Friday at the website van Cambuur.
Mühren and Cambuur seemed on their way to the Eredivisie. The club was at the top of the Kitchen Champion Division with a considerable lead, but because the season was not finished due to the corona crisis, the Leeuwarders missed out on promotion.
The club wants nothing more than to enforce promotion next season and Mühren likes to be part of that. “Robert really wanted to stay and take revenge with everyone involved in the club,” said Booy.
Mühren’s contract with Zulte Waregem runs until mid-2021. The Belgian club captured him in early 2017, but has not had any plans with him for years. Mühren was previously rented to Sparta Rotterdam and NAC Breda.
The Kitchen Champion season starts on August 28, two weeks before the start of the Eredivisie.
