Karel Erjavec failed to collect enough votes

The government of Janez Janša successfully passed the vote of constructive no confidence in the National Assembly.

Candidate for Prime Minister Karl Erjavec it failed to collect enough votes in a secret ballot. It was supported by 40 MEPs, with seven voting against. The deputies took over 53 ballots, all of which were returned. Six ballots were invalid.

Eleven deputies from LMŠ, SD, Levice, DeSUS and SAB proposed a constructive vote of no confidence with the proposal to elect the president of DeSUS Erjavec as prime minister. The original ten signatories were joined by an LMŠ deputy Jani Möderndorfer.

Criticism of epidemic control

The all-day discussion served mainly with different assessments of the work of the government. While criticism has been heard from the proponents of distrust at the expense of controlling the covida-19 epidemic and interfering in all social subsystems, the coalition ranks believe the government is doing well. Among other things, they pointed out the adoption of several anti-crown laws and a larger volume of funds in the field of care for the elderly.

Proponents of the vote of confidence accused the government of heavy borrowing and controversial staff changes in key institutions, of failing to control the spread of infections in nursing homes, and were critical of measures in the areas of youth, education and sports. Representatives of the coalition accused the proponents, among other things, of their unconstructive attitude and lack of a substantive program.

The second decision on constructive distrust since the construction of the first National Assembly

Today’s decision of no confidence in the Janša government was the second decision on constructive distrust since the constitution of the first National Assembly. In this way, on 27 February 2013, the National Assembly elected a new Prime Minister Alenko Bratušek, thus dismissing the then Prime Minister. Even then it was Janez Janša.
