Kaluga residents are invited to take part in the winter census of “gray necks”

This weekend, January 16 and 17, the all-Russian action “Gray Neck – 2021” for the winter registration of waterfowl will take place. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Kaluga Region encourages residents of the region to take part in it.

The agency this year acts as the regional coordinator of the annual project for the registration of wintering waterfowl, organized by the Russian Bird Conservation Union. The fact is that most of these birds leave our region and send them for wintering in Western and Southern Europe, India, China and Southeast Asia. However, a part still remains.

Bird watchers are counting the remaining wintering birds, but they cannot cover all wintering grounds, and they do not know about all the flocks of ducks. Therefore, they ask for help from the public.

For the first time, the “Gray Neck” campaign started in 2015. To make the study as complete as possible, the organizers invite all lovers of wildlife to take part in the action. According to the Kaluga ministry, on the territory of almost all districts of the region there are places where ducks winter. Up to 2 thousand birds remain in the region annually.
