At the beginning of this year, Porsche y Pixar announced a collaboration to bring to life Sally Carrera from the movie ‘Cars’. On the tape, it is a Porsche 911 type 996, but this time it is a Porsche 911 Carrera GTS of the current range.
It is a unique model named Sally Special and will be auctioned for charity by RM Sotheby’s on the occasion of the Monterey Car Week from August 15 to 20.
Pixar’s Cars is more than an animated movie. It is already a classic of cinema that all generations and everyone likes, whether they like cars or not, although in the process those who are not petrolhead miss all the nods to the world of the car that are on the tape.
The film gave rise to a series of memorable characters, such as the protagonist Sally Carrera, a Porsche 911 type 996, who, together with her companions from Radiator Springs, teaches a front row racing driver, Lightning McQueen, a series of valuable lessons, both piloting and life.
With the film becoming a cultural icon, it was time to bring some of the characters to life. The Sally Special, is a unique piece created by those responsible for the film, in particular the director Jay Ward, and Bob Pauley, the original designer of Sally Carrera, as well as the Sonderwunsch department of Porsche, which usually makes one-off models and Special orders.
Sally Carrera is today a 911 Carrera GTS… with a manual gearbox, of course
“We had a lot of fun creating the 911 Sally Special and it’s the first time we’ve worked on a project like this,” says Jay Ward. “We decided early on that we wanted a road-legal 911 inspired by Sally Carrera, but not an exact copy. Sally Carrera loves to drive and that was our inspiration. We asked ourselves: if Sally were made today as a street model, what would she look like?
the answer is one Porsche 911 Carrera GTS 400 hp, rear-wheel drive and manual gearbox. Obviously, Porsche created a number of new components for the Sally Special, perhaps the most notable being a modern reinterpretation of the iconic 996 Turbo Twist wheels.
The color is new to Porsche and naturally goes by the name Sally Blue Metallic. It does not cover only the bodywork, but also in small touches in the interior. And of course they have recreated Sally Carrera’s tribal tattoo that is only visible when the spoiler is raised.
Proceeds will be donated to two charities. A portion of the proceeds will benefit young women through a donation to Girls Inc. The other portion will go to USA for UNHCR (ACNUR in Spain), an organization that supports refugees from Ukraine.
Included with the car is a second set of wheels and tires intended for track use, a custom Porsche Design watch and a book detailing the entire development of the car.
