In this first court of the country, the verdict was read in Bengali instead of English. Bengal was used during the verdict in the case of assassination attempt on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina by planting a bomb two decades ago at Kotalipara in Gopalganj on Wednesday (February 18th).
As there is no Bengali term for the English word, the judges of the high court are not interested in giving judgment and order in Bengali. Although some judges of the Supreme Court have given verdicts and orders in Bengal, their number is not high.
In such a context, the judiciary and the government have emphasized on formulating Bengali terminology of English words. After a long research, the Law Commission has also determined a new Bengali terminology of four and a half thousand words in English in a joint venture of an expert team including the late National Professor Anisuzzaman. In all, ‘Law-Dictionary’ has been printed with more than ten thousand Bengali terms at the initiative of the Law Commission.
On the occasion of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu, a dictionary has been dedicated to Father of the Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The marketing of the language started commercially in February. Similarly, ‘Bangla App’ has been developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Law for translating judgments and orders into English. It is scheduled to be inaugurated on Thursday (February 18) at the initiative of the Supreme Court administration.
