JU teacher fired for sexual harassment

Jahangirnagar University Assistant Professor of Government and Politics for sexual harassment. Sanwar Siraj has been removed by the university administration.

Rahima Kaniz, acting registrar of the university, confirmed the information on Wednesday (February 18th).

Rahima Kaniz said Sanwar Siraj, an assistant professor in the government and politics department, was sacked at the university’s regular syndicate held on Tuesday (February 18th). The university syndicate took the decision according to the investigation report of the anti-sexual harassment cell as the allegations against him were proved.

He added that the office order could not reach Sanwar Siraj as the office was closed. He will be informed about the matter through office order on the next working day. Apart from this, he will not be able to enjoy any other benefits from the university.

It may be mentioned that on September 19, 2019, the victim lodged a written complaint of sexual harassment against Sanwar Siraj along with the president of the department. The department head sent the allegation to the university’s anti-sexual harassment cell for investigation.
