Jorge Delgado: Incentive to purchase an electric car may end in 2024 – Transportes

The incentive to purchase an electric car, which this year still reached 5.2 million euros, should no longer be part of the next State Budget. The Government intends to replace this support with measures that allow a reduction in charging costs.

In an interview with Negócios e Antena 1, the Secretary of State for Urban Mobility, Jorge Delgado explained that the high levels of purchase of electric cars reveal that the purchase is no longer linked to the incentive and that, at this moment, State support would not be able to keep up with the search values.

“This makes support useful for a small number when compared to the universe of electric car buyers. We have to evolve towards a more universal type of incentive for electric mobility”, he says.

In his view, the State’s intervention must be carried out by reducing the amount of fees charged for loading these vehicles, which would be “a way for the incentive to be the same for everyone”.

“The fee paid to cover the management entity’s costs is already covered by around 700,000 euros from the Environmental Fund. We can reduce this fee further. And then there are other fees that are incorporated into the cost of charging that we can work with” , explains.
