That there are co-op shooters where you mow down hundreds of zombies dead? The developers at Saber Interactive don’t think so. Their upcoming event John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando is exactly such a game. You can watch the announcement trailer from Summer Game Fest above.
The game will run on the Swarm engine, whose power lies in rendering hundreds of characters. It was used, for example, in World War Z and will also be used in the upcoming sequel Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2.
Legendary horror director John Carpenter (Halloween, The Thing) will take care of the script and setting. After all, his name is right in the title of the game. It will be a reference to eighties action movies, but you don’t have to worry that Toxic Commando will cover you with some unnecessary story exposition. First of all, it is mainly about mowing down zombies and an exaggerated atmosphere.
But judge for yourself: Humanity will try to extract energy directly from the earth’s core. Which, of course, turns out to be the case, and lo and behold, there are the “infected”, and thus the necessity of taking them out of the world. Toxic Commando can be played solo or in co-op. Weapon loadouts will focus mainly on style. Here we can find everything from grenades, regular weapons to katanas like this.
John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando will be released in 2024 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
