American JBL has introduced a pair of wireless headphones, Tour Pro 2, with the peculiarity that the accompanying charging case has a 1.45-inch LED touchscreen. The panel offers functions for controlling music playback, configuring the headphones, receiving calls, and viewing notifications from a connected mobile.
JBL markets the screen as a productivity enhancer and the idea is that users should not have to pick up the phone as often. On the other hand, they need to pick up the case instead, so if the user has a smartwatch or if the phone is kept easily accessible in a trouser pocket, the benefit may be limited.
Tour Pro 2 otherwise offers adaptive and customizable noise reduction, Bluetooth 5.3 (latest version), and 10mm speaker elements. According to JBL, the headphones have a battery life of 10 hours, or 40 hours in combination with the case.
The predecessor to the Tour Pro 2 is sold in JBL’s Swedish online store, but at the time of writing the new model is not visible there.
