Moderator Jana Pareigis welcomed this Tuesday for the first time the audience of the ZDF news program “heute”.

The 40-year-old journalist closes the gap left by the long-time presenter Petra Gerster two months ago. The show’s team of moderators also includes Barbara Hahlweg, who was part of “heute” for the first time in 2007, initially as a substitute, and Christian Sievers, who has presented the news program since 2014.

Pareigis has set itself the goal: “I want to inspire people for what is happening in the world”. The linguistic work on the news is particularly important to her, said Pareigis of the German Press Agency – “and how do I prepare it so that it becomes interesting for the television audience”. In the television news, in contrast to written news, she sees “the chance that I as a person can take people with me, convey what is happening to them”.

Since April 2018, Pareigis has designed the “ZDF Mittagsmagazin” as the main presenter. She will continue to moderate this program for a few weeks each year. Born in Hamburg, she joined ZDF in 2014 from Deutsche Welle. There she worked as a reporter, film writer, editor and presenter.

Today from 7 p.m. Pareigis’ first appearance on the main news of the ZDF to see. Your first week of moderation is also the second in the new “today” design (DIGITAL TELEVISION reported)
