At the proposal of the opposition movement ANO, the House of Representatives will probably remove Ivo Vondrák from the school committee, which he chairs. In February, Vondrák left the parliamentary club and subsequently the movement, which wants to send Jana Hanzlíková to the committee on his behalf. The proposals have already been discussed by the parliamentary election committee. Vondrák’s end in the education committee would open the way for Jana Berkovcová, ANO’s shadow minister of education, to be elected its new chairperson later. She has been a member of the committee since the beginning of the election period.
“Given the fact that I am in Israel on business and I was just at the Wailing Wall, this leaves me completely calm, because in this context my dismissal from the committee seems null and void,” Vondrák told ČTK.
The Chamber adjourned the decision-making on the proposed changes in its bodies this afternoon. According to the proposal of the chairman of the coalition ODS club Mark Benda, he will return to it after the Lower House approves the controversial involvement of the Senate in the election of councilors for Czech Television and Czech Radio. The approval of the bill has so far been accompanied by obstructions from the opposition ANO and SPD. Benda said that the suspension of discussion of changes in the parliamentary bodies “is part of the negotiations that are taking place here”. “And that we will of course support this proposal as a coalition,” he said.
Today, the ANO movement did not support the SPD’s attempt to block the coalition proposal so that the Chamber could approve the amendment on Czech Radio and Czech Television already in the fourth act and this afternoon outside the hours set by the rules of procedure for the final rounds of discussion of laws. In addition, Minister of Culture Martin Baxa (ODS) announced that, together with Aleš Juchelka (ANO), he will propose postponing the draft’s effectiveness to October 1. “By this I think that they can be publicly, I don’t want to say removed, but I would say made irrelevant the comments that were made here about the purpose of that law and which connected them with the ongoing process of electing a new CEO of Czech Television,” said Baxa.
The proposal for changes in the parliamentary bodies is broader. In connection with Hanzlíková’s nomination to the school committee, the House of Representatives will also discuss her resignation as a member of the control committee. Pavel Růžička is to head for ANO.
Vondrák is now an unaffiliated member of parliament. He criticized the relations in ANO for a long time and in January’s presidential election he did not vote for the chairman of ANO, Andrej Babiš, but for his opponent and the newly elected president, Petr Pavl. Vondrák remains the governor of the Moravian-Silesian Region. The School Committee is the only committee of which he is a member in the House.
