On the occasion of the award Mark Awards awards, Borislav Miljanović, CEO Represent Systema and president of this year’s jury, talks about why it’s important to highlight experts from companies and to what extent their work contributes to market development.
This year, for the first time, the marketing network will award Mark Awards to the most successful marketing and communication experts from companies. Why is it important to highlight experts from companies and to what extent their work contributes to market development?
We who deal with communications, are used to being in the shadow of our clients or directors and managers who operate companies. That is why it is important that at least once a year we turn the spotlight on all those wonderful, hard-working and capable people who are building the image of products or services, as well as all employees in one company. Professionals working in the marketing and communications sectors not only make a significant contribution to the development of their companies, but also the markets in which those companies operate, and therefore need to be promoted and highlighted.
Research shows that often the CEO of a company does not recognize the importance of marketing and communications. How can partner agencies help with this?
One of the ways is to draw attention to the best professionals in our profession, which is the basic idea Mark Awards. We should celebrate the best and represent our industry wherever possible. I am sure that the communication industry of Serbia is one of the few that fully keeps pace with world trends and people who work in communication jobs generally do not leave the country, develop their intelligence and work here and improve the business of domestic companies. Agencies should be their partners on that path of development.
Why is it important for marketing and communication experts to be part of the Management Board of companies and participate in the creation of strategic plans on an equal footing with top management?
The COVID-19 pandemic has shown us how important it is to communicate quickly and efficiently with all important stakeholders. In the digital era in which we are surrounded by various media channels and social networks, no one who wants to succeed in a business must neglect the power of communication, and that is why this question is superfluous. There is no modern successful company in which communication is not at the very top of priorities.
As the president of the jury, what will be the key criteria according to which you will evaluate the nominees and what will you pay attention to?
The jury includes prominent professionals from companies and agencies and I look forward to working with them. Together, we will appreciate how much individuals contribute to the development of brands and companies in the market, but also our profession, and who they are to look up to. We will also appreciate who changes, who learns and improves their work faster than others.
