Israel’s foreign minister Eli Cohen visited Sweden on Monday.

He was received by Foreign Minister Tobias Billström (M), who hosted a subsequent lunch.

“The purpose of the visit was to further strengthen the bilateral relations between Sweden and Israel and to discuss global and regional issues of mutual interest,” the government writes in a statement.

Eli Cohen describes the visit on Twitter as the beginning of “a new era” for the relationship between Sweden and Israel.

The Israeli minister also describes Tobias Billström as a “close ally” of Israel.
