The Hebrew newspaper “Jerusalem Post” published a report in which it warned against the continuation of Israeli practices and the settlers’ aggression against the Palestinian people, stressing that these practices are similar to what happened during the first intifada.
According to the report translated by the Freedom and Justice Gateway, Palestinian groups and activists warned that the practices of the occupying state and the settlers’ attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank will lead to a new intifada.
The warning came at a time when clashes continued between Palestinians and soldiers of the occupation army at the end of the week in different parts of the West Bank.
The uprising has begun
Some Palestinian activists said that “the intifada has already begun, and they called for an escalation of popular resistance against the Israeli occupation army and settlers.”
“The intifada has already begun, and what we are witnessing now in the West Bank is similar to what happened during the first intifada, which erupted in 1987,” said a senior activist belonging to the ruling Fatah movement.
Another activist affiliated with the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, affiliated with the Palestine Liberation Organization, said that “the growing resentment in the West Bank is also directed at the Palestinian Authority.”
“Many people are angry because the Palestinian Authority is not doing anything to defend them against the increasing attacks by the Israeli occupation army and settlers,” the activist said.
Palestinian sources said that dozens of Palestinians were injured today, Friday, during clashes with the Israeli occupation forces in several villages and towns in the northern West Bank.
Invitations to escalate
On the other hand, Hamas and the other Palestinian factions renewed their call to escalate all forms of resistance against the occupying state.
For its part, the Palestinian Authority has stepped up its criticism of the occupying power in the wake of the escalating violence in the West Bank.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that “at a time when the Palestinian people and the entire world celebrate Christmas, the settlers’ militias, their armed terrorist organizations, the occupation forces and their various branches continue to escalate the aggression against the Palestinian people, their lands, properties, homes and holy sites.”
The ministry added that the settlers attacked again the Palestinians in different parts of the West Bank over the past week with the participation and support of the occupation army.
The Israeli government is fully and directly responsible for this expansionist colonial war, which constitutes the true essence of the official Israeli policy towards the Palestinian people and their rights.
The ministry called on the international community to put pressure on the Israeli occupation government to stop its aggression and settlement policy immediately, and to actively engage in a peace process and negotiations that would lead to an end to the occupation within a specific deadline and in accordance with the approved international peace references.
Earlier, the Ministry of Defense of the Palestinian Authority condemned the death of a woman north of Ramallah in a traffic accident involving an Israeli driver, describing it as a war crime. However, he later reported the incident to the police.
The ministry described the incident as a horrific extrajudicial killing by a terrorist settler.
A deterrent response to the resistance
Commenting on Al-Masalma’s death, Hamas threatened that the escalation of the settlers’ crimes against our people in the West Bank will not remain without a deterrent response from our people.
Hamas also called on the Palestinians in the West Bank to continue comprehensive resistance in all its forms, especially armed resistance, in response to the crimes of the occupation and settlers.
The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, affiliated with the Palestine Liberation Organization, also urged the Palestinians to confront the escalating terrorism against our people, carried out by the Israeli occupation army soldiers and settlers.
The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine added that what is happening in the West Bank is in the context of a war of ethnic cleansing with direct orders and full support from the occupation government.
The group added in a statement, “This organized terrorism requires the development of popular action in various ways. We call on all our people to unite in the face of this scheme and the fierce and brutal attacks launched by the settlers.”
The group called on the Palestinians to form popular protection committees to defend our people, and to confront the settlers’ attempts to storm villages and towns.
The Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement also called for the continuation of attacks on Israeli occupation forces soldiers and settlers, saying that “this will inevitably lead to a comprehensive uprising.”
Sheikh Bassam al-Saadi, a senior official in the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, called for intensifying cooperation between all forces and factions, to protect our people in the face of conspiracies being hatched against them.
Al-Saadi denounced the security coordination between Israel and the security forces of the Palestinian Authority, saying that it “encourages the settlers to increase their aggression against the Palestinians.”
