“As part of the 2022 IRS campaign on income earned in 2021, the Tax and Customs Authority reimbursed around 816 million euros until Wednesday, April 27th”, says the Ministry of Finance in a statement.
The same information indicates that, so far, more than 2.9 million statements have been delivered, of which 42% were submitted through the automatic IRS.
Of those 2.9 million declarations, more than 1.3 million were settled, giving rise to 905 thousand reimbursements to taxpayers, in the total amount of 816 million euros.
In this way, the average reimbursement paid in this first month of the IRS campaign is around 901 euros.
At the same time, 136 thousand collection notes were issued, for a total amount of 60 million euros, the remaining being void, that is, situations in which there is no room for either reimbursement or payment of tax. The IRS’s annual filing kicked off on April 1st and ends on June 30th, and there are nearly three million taxpayers who can do so using the IRS automatic functionality.
Taxpayers who wish to do so may resort to face-to-face assistance at the Finance Services, and the appointment must be made through the Finance Portal or the AT Telephone Service Centre.
At stake is the declaration of income earned throughout 2021, and the three months available for this annual IRS adjustment apply to all types of income and profiles of individual taxpayers.
In order to submit the IRS tax return, taxpayers must have a password to access the Finance Portal, as it can only be submitted electronically.
Contrary to what has happened in previous years, this time there were no changes in relation to the type of taxpayers covered by the automatic IRS, which means that, according to the Secretary of State for Tax Affairs, António Mendonça Mendes, there are about three million covered by this feature.
