IPMA extends yellow warning due to heavy rainfall to seven Azores islands – Portugal

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) this Saturday extended the yellow warning regarding the heavy rainfall that already exists for the islands of the Western Group to the islands of the Central Group of the Azores.

IPMA warns of the possibility of “rainfall that is sometimes heavy, which may be accompanied by thunderstorms”, in seven of the nine islands of the Azores, from 00:00 local time on Sunday (01:00 in Lisbon).

For the Western Group (Flores and Corvo) a yellow warning had already been issued for the period between 00:00 on Sunday and 15:00, being now extended to 18:00.

On the islands of the Central Group (Terceira, Graciosa, Faial, Pico and São Jorge), the notice is valid for the period between 18:00 on Sunday and 18:00 on Monday.

The IPMA issues a yellow warning (the third least severe on a scale of three) whenever there is a risk situation for certain activities depending on the weather situation.
