Introduced ZEISS Mineralogic 3D for geosciences

ZEISS introduced on November 5, ZEISS Mineralogic 3D software for automated quantitative mineralogy, which increases the productivity and efficiency of the mining industry. By understanding the composition, mineral relationships and structure of the geological materials studied, including locked grains, miners can respond more quickly to critical production issues.

Maximizing recovery requires improved efficiency

The process of crushing rock to separate valuable commodities consumes a significant amount of energy, reportedly more than 3% of total world electricity production. The growing demand for resources leads to the evaluation of more complex ores with lower quality. Maximizing yield requires efficiency improvements that include detailed knowledge of the ore body and the mineralogy that influences the behavior during the refining process. When time is of the essence, ZEISS Mineralogic 3D provides the data needed to make decisions, from sorting improvements to process improvements to assessing the quality of the final concentrate.

Recognition of individual particles

Software ZEISS Mineralogic Built on the top platforms of the ZEISS Xradia 3D and microCT X-ray microscope using ZEISS DeepRecon Pro technology, 3D features advanced and flexible machine learning protocols that recognize individual particles even when in contact with other particles. The particles are then automatically analyzed individually and provide a number of key outputs such as modal mineralogy, volume, porosity, Feret’s dimensional measurements, associations and liberations.
With ZEISS Mineralogic 3D technology, almost no sample preparation is required, stereological assumptions are eliminated, as each grain is displayed in full in three dimensions, and the time to obtain usable data is significantly reduced. In addition, rare samples, ie meteorites and sample return missions, are preserved due to the non-destructive nature of X-rays.

ZEISS Mineralogic 3D is available for ZEISS Xradia Context microCT or Crystal CT microscopes and ZEISS Xradia Versa X-ray microscopes. Integrates ZEISS DeepRecon Pro for deep learning image processing and ZEISS ZEN Intellesis for machine learning support segmentation.

ZEISS Mineralogic 2D is also available on ZEISS scanning electron microscope platforms with the inclusion of EDS detectors.
