Intel Rocket Lake S – fewer cores, higher speed

The new generation of Intel The Rocket Lake S desktop processor will have “only” eight cores, which is a reduction over last year’s 10-core i9-10900K processor. There aren’t many details about Rocket Lake S hardware for now, but Intel gave some hints at CES. These processors should provide up to 50 percent better integrated graphics performance, and will have and AI integration with Intel’s Deep Learning Boost technology. The Rocket Lake S chips will support PCIe 4.0 and will be backward compatible with the existing 400 chipset series as well as the upcoming 500 series motherboards.

Intel also announced that their future hybrid “Alder Lake” chips can be expected in the second half of this year. It will be the first hybrid chips from the company to combine fast cores with high efficiency cores in one module. The company has already introduced Lakefield hybrid chips for light laptops, but much more power is expected from Alder Lake. That will be possible, among other things, because it will these processors be based on a refined 10-nm architecture, which in itself will bring greater speed and efficiency.
