Interior Minister Māris Kučinskis (AS) has decided to move Grišina.
The Minister stated that the promotion of Grishin to the position of head of the IDB is related to the need to ensure the continuity of the work of this institution, taking into account his experience and knowledge of the processes taking place in the internal affairs system.
“It is important that the leading positions in such an institution are occupied by high-level professionals, under whose leadership the institution would be able to detect violations, detect offenders and bring cases to legal proceedings – this is an essential part of the internal security of the country,” emphasized Kučinskis.
The Cabinet of Ministers must make a decision on the approval of Grishin as the head of the IDB.
Finding and appointing Grishin’s successor will be within the competence of the head of the State Police, Armandas Ruk.
Mūrnieks has been leading IDB since its foundation in 2015. In July 2020, the government extended the term of office of Mūrnieks as the head of the IDB for five years – until October 31, 2025.
Grishins was appointed as the head of the Main Criminal Police Department in 2013.
Before that, he was the head of the Riga regional administration.
