Innovative method applied on demanding terrain – Chortanovci Tunnel

The Chortanovci tunnel is located on the section of the high-speed railway Stara Pazova – Novi Sad, as part of the project of modernization of the railway line Belgrade – Budapest. Due to the very complex geomechanical characteristics of the landslide terrain, the tunnel was designed with two separate single-track tunnel pipes. The tunnel is constructed the new Austrian method of NATM and consists of two parallel pipes for single-track traffic, with a total length of 2.2 km.

The task was to run both pipes at the same time, starting from the same portal, with the aim of meeting another contractor in the middle of the tunnel pipes.

Neither the tunnel trolley nor the reinforcing scaffolding should have been an obstacle to internal transport for the purpose of excavation and export of materials, for which the appropriate free profile for the passage of the truck was taken into account. It was necessary use of a fast, secure and reliable system, whereby the whole system was to be divisible into two identical, independent segments 6.05 m long, which was respected by the structural design in the phase of detailed elaboration.

The terrain on which the excavation was carried out is the soil of the 6th category with a significant presence of groundwater, which created very difficult working conditions. A reliable solution was obtained achieved significant time savings required to perform the concreting cycle.

For the needs of installing the reinforcement of the secondary lining, trolleys composed of elements were used PERI UP Flex sistema, thus providing easy installation and relocation inside the tunnel. It was used to make the secondary lining of the tunnel PERI steel tunnel formwork with standard TET-04 stroller.

An important factor that significantly simplified and accelerated the work was reflected in the control of cylinders and wheels for moving the structure from one command post. Carefully designed technical solution enabled, using hydraulic pumps, fast movement of the trolley to the next concreting stroke, as well as efficient and precise adjustment of the formwork to the concreting position.
