CULTURE – Two years after the separation of the mythical group, a new title unveiled in world premiere at the Center Pompidou. This Thursday, May 11 in Paris, a few hundred lucky people were able to discover « Infinity Repeating »a soaring track originally composed for Daft Punk’s latest album, Random access memoriesreleased in 2013 ten years ago, but which had not been kept in the final version.

With a duration of four minutes fifteen and without chorus, the title, produced in collaboration with Julian Casablancas, the singer of the Strokes, recalls − as rightly points out France Inter − other tracks from their latest album, such as « Motherboard » or « Fragments of Time ». The voice of the star of the Strokes accompanies the instrumental from beginning to end, and blends gently with the robotic sounds characteristic of the French duo.

It was possible to listen to the new Daft Punk title in three different places at the Center Pompidou this Thursday evening: in the forum, where the official clip must be broadcast on a loop all evening; in the cinema hall and finally in one of the galleries of the museum. Within the latter, the cultural center offered a “listening in ultra-high fidelity” with “Equipment with more than 30 speakers and a sound system designed by experts from Ircam (Institute for research and acoustic/music coordination). »

A commented listening on July 9

On the screens of the Center Pompidou, spectators were able to discover a minimalist and captivating clip in which a man, sometimes a skeleton, an astronaut or even a diver, walks tirelessly and evolves as he goes. You can get a preview in the videos belowshared on Twitter by fellow journalists present on site.

« Infinity repeating » is one of the nine tracks laid on tape in 2013 and never released – studio scraps, demos, preparatory work – filling the expanded reissue for the 10th anniversary of « Random access memories » which will be published on Friday. Two other new releases have already been released. « The writing of Fragments of time » is a sound making-of of the track « Fragments of time ». Et “GLBTM” is a kind of jam session that prefigures the title « Give life back to music ».

The Center Pompidou is part of the history of the helmeted duo, separated since 2021. It was in Beaubourg, another name for the place, that they discovered electro during a rave evening in 1992, a year before their formation. . The musical experience will continue there on July 9, 2023, for a “commented listening to the entire album on the ultra-high-fidelity system”.
