Ineos Grenadier – You can now really order this non-Land Rover Defender

What a night in the pub can’t turn out to be… A number of British friends were drowning their sorrows over the departure of the original Land Rover Defender and decided to come up with their own all-terrain vehicle: the Ineos Grenadier. This non-Defender – although it looks very similar – can be reserved immediately, also in the Netherlands.

The Ineos Grenadier is not an SUV, but a real all-terrain vehicle: with four-wheel drive, a ladder chassis and a gearbox with a low range. The idea for a car in the spirit of the original Land Rover Defender came from Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who heads the chemical group Ineos. He was sitting with friends in the pub The Grenadier in London when he came up with it. Ratcliffe initially wanted to return the Defender to production and approached Jaguar Land Rover for the necessary equipment and machinery, but the car company refused to give him permission. So Ratcliffe had his own model developed.

Ineos Grenadier is a Land Rover Defender with BMW engines

For the time being, there are two variants of the Ineos Grenadier: the Station Wagon and the Utility Wagon. The first is the five-door version with two rows of seats. The second has no rear seat and is intended as a work vehicle. A four-door pick-up is also planned. Ineos shopped at BMW for the engines. The Grenadier is available with a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine with 286 hp and 450 Nm or with a 3.0-liter six-cylinder turbo diesel with 249 hp and 550 Nm. An eight-speed automatic transmission is standard. It is not yet known what the Ineos will cost in the Netherlands. But for a reservation you pay 2500 euros.
