BANJA LUKA – After several years of dormancy, the authorities in Republika Srpska are reviving the idea of building a highway from Banja Luka to Mliniste, the portal has learned CAPITAL.
Namely, the Highways of the Republic of Srpska plan to announce a tender worth one million marks in April for the development of a preliminary design and a subdivision plan for the first section of the highway from Banja Luka to Mrkonjić Grad.
By the way, “Highways of the Republic of Srpska” were in 2014 with the Chinese company “Sinohydro” signed a preliminary agreement on the design and construction of this highway Banja Luka in the length of 62 kilometers and the value of 600 million euros.
It is predicted that the route of the highway will lead from the junction in Glamočani, then to the Manjača plateau, and further west from Mrkonjić Grad to the town of Baraći and then to the border with the Federation of BiH.
Two years later, ie in 2016, a commercial contract was signed with the same company, and everything was supposed to be financed by the Chinese “Exim Bank”, but to date there has been no progress in its realization.
At the beginning of last year, “Sinohidro” opened its representative office in Banja Luka, which is what the portal is about CAPITAL wrote in the text “The Chinese want millions of projects through Banja Luka.”
However, although the Chinese impose themselves as the only choice, the portal CAPITAL learns that the signed contracts do not have a binding character or great legal force, and that it is not excluded that the American company “Bechtel”, which is building the “Moravian Corridor” in Serbia, will be involved in the construction work.
By the way, the idea is to go all the way to Split with this highway. The largest part of 99 kilometers would pass through the Republika Srpska, 60 through the Federation of BiH, and 22 kilometers would be done by Croatia.
However, it is very questionable how much the Croatian side is interested in this project because it is a direct competition to their road network. Especially the inhabitants of Slavonia would no longer use the longer and more expensive Croatian highway that leads to Split via Zagreb.
On the other hand, the highway that was built only to Mlinište, ie to the entity border with the Federation of BiH, would not be economically viable for the Republika Srpska.
